Boxing Legend Micky Ward visits with Elk Lake student athletes
Bobby Galella
My educational background consists of 28 years serving in local school districts as an Assistant Principal and Principal at both elementary and secondary levels following my elementary classroom teaching which is where my wife and I met. As a matter of fact, I proposed to my wife in the classroom with our 4th grade students as my wife and I worked in a Co-teaching inclusive setting. My principal at the time allowed me to surprise my wife with the classroom proposal with our 26 students being a part of the planning process for 2 months and who came to our wedding. Their families, our families, and our colleagues were all part of the celebration this day. I also served as a Director of Special Education Services, Director of Curriculum, Assistant Superintendent and currently in my third year as Superintendent of the Elk Lake School District and Susquehanna County Career Technology Center… the place that I have been waiting to serve for a long time.
I prefer to highlight my employer and the school community I so proudly serve. In simple terms, we at Elk Lake and SCCTC do it differently! From the board of education, employees, students, and parents/guardians - we believe we do it the Best! Our focus is always on maintaining trustworthy, solid, genuine, friendly, loving, and caring relationships with one another. Colleague to Colleague, student to student, Staff to student, student to staff, while embracing the parental support that is given to our schools by our families. Being honest, true and real – Our mindset that we have and display every day when we arrive to campus or as we call it… “God’s Country,” is a belief that we do things differently than every other place because we don’t believe that high stake testing or curriculum or scores are the most important in what we do. We honestly believe that the most important is to continue to cultivate – Every Day – a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for ALL students, families and staff. Because we do this well, that is why all the other things fall into place where we are academically and athletically competitive with other schools. We are the Walmart of Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties where everyone wants to become a part of in one way or another. We have high school students serving as student workers, and adults wanting to work here to families wanting to send their child(ren) here. I and our “A-Team” as I refer to our administrative team, will always stand shoulder to shoulder with one another and with our staff because we all share the same mindset of what matters most. We are different and do it differently because we all know we have each other’s back and support one another. We are different because we think differently than everywhere else because we value what matters most in life, creating strong relationships beginning with trust and ending with love for one another.
